Description

As summer vacation ends, two young girls visit a mountain clearing to watch the evening fireworks. As night falls and the fireworks end, their hometown becomes enveloped in darkness. On their journey home, something lunges from the shadows to attack, and the two girls find themselves lost in the dark. Separated and afraid, the girls must brace themselves for the terrors of the night, and face the darkness to find each other and make their way home. Hide behind bushes and signs as enemies approach you, and use items you find in the woods and in town to solve puzzles and distract ghouls. Then, discover notes and mysterious writings that may lead to something more haunting than you can imagine.

Installation Guide

Step-by-step setup process for CODEX

Open the .iso with a virtual drive program (e.g. Daemon Tools) — on Windows 10/11 a double click mounts it on its own.
Install the game by running setup.exe and following the wizard.
After installation, copy the entire contents of the CODEX folder from the disc into the game folder and agree to replace the files.
Start the game through its usual shortcut, preferably as administrator.

Having trouble launching the game?

Check these common causes before troubleshooting further.

The steam_api64.dll and other files from the CODEX folder are the heart of the release — if your antivirus removes them, restore them from quarantine and exclude the game folder.
CODEX releases run fully offline. For safety, block the game .exe in your firewall so it never tries to reach Steam.
Errors about missing d3dx9_43.dll or MSVCP140.dll mean the runtimes were skipped — install everything from the disc's Redist or _CommonRedist folder.
